Query

In Step 1. Select Business Object grid, a list of most commonly used business objects, or tables, are listed such as Student, Course etc.

• Click business object Name to use in query. Selected object displays in Objects list, and properties associated with selected business object displays in Step 2. Select Properties grid. Properties are pieces of information about business object selected, such as Birth Date or Last Name for Student object.

• Click property Name to include in query. Additional properties may be found by advancing pages at bottom of grid.

• • Click page number or click to advance.

  • Check Show All Business Objects to display all.

  • • Click to advance ten pages.

Property displays below in Step 3. Provide any Desired Property Overrides grid.

• Continue adding properties until all needed information is shown in Step 3. Provide any Desired Property Overrides grid.

At this point, a basic query has been created.

• Click at top of screen to see what query will look like.

Query displays in format selected (default is HTML). If information is correct, query can be saved or further customizations can be made. Execute can be run as many times as needed to test query.

• Click at top of screen to clear query and start over.

Use Step 3. Provide any Desired Property Overrides grid for the following.

• Check on line of property to remove property from query.

• Enter new heading in Label Override to change heading of column in report. Default heading is name of property, such as Perm ID or Gender.

• Enter new Order to change order of columns. Each property must be assigned a unique number.

• Enter new Width in inches to change width of each column.

• Check Hide to hide property used in query calculation so it is not display on report. This is generally used for more complicated queries to hide link fields. However, it can be used to hide a property that sorts or filters from displaying on report.

Each of properties listed can be used to group records with same value in property together.

• Click Group and select Group # to group on a property.

• Multiple groups may be created. Group 1 is first property to group, Group 2 is second, etc. When a property is grouped, it is removed from the columns and placed at the top of each page on which records of group are listed.

Note: For groups to work correctly, query must be sorted in same order as groups. See Sort tab help for more information.

• Click Break and select to insert a break into report and allow group information to display, if grouping records was selected. While group information will display at top of page, it is rare that groups split exactly at end of page. Without break, records would still be grouped, but group would not display on report. Break can either be by Group or by Page. Group break inserts information about group and repeats header information, but does not start a new page at start of each group.

Page break starts a new page at start of each new group in addition to repeating group and header information.

Properties that are drop-down lists have a Code and a Description. For example, code for gender is M but description is Male.

• Click Display and select Code, Description, or Both. Default option means Synergy SIS will select best fit for property. Usually default is description, but in cases where description is very long, code is usually used (such as with Enter Codes). When Both is selected, Code is displayed first and then Description, separated by a hyphen.

• Click to add a new row to Step 3. Provide any desired property overrides grid. This option provides user the ability to add a text that will be included in the query output.
