System Configuration

Synergy SIS offers a default support page that accessed by clicking Support at top of any view. This will direct users to contact their internal Synergy SIS help desk for assistance.

• Enter Support Page  - HTML file name of internal support home page.

Edupoint offers subject-specific online help for Synergy SIS. Online help is accessed by clicking on Help at top of any view. Initial Help page lists all of online help modules available.  A module-specific PDF opens to display information when a link is clicked.

A default Contact Us option is offered at bottom of every logon page. This option brings up an e-mail message in computer’s default email message editor to send to [email protected].

Creation of a custom Support page or Contact Us page is also available. See XXXXX for further configuration details.

• Download the appropriate zip file from the _Release folder located at ftp://ftp.edupoint.com.

• There will be multiple zip files. Choose the one that most closely resembles your license key localization. For example there is one for USA, USA.CA, and USA.CA.LBUSD. If your license key localization is USA.CA.LBUSD, that is the file you would use. If it is some other USA.CA localization, you would use the USA.CA file instead. If you are not in CA, then you would use the USA file (provided no other file matches the beginning of your localization).

• Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file to the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot folder on EACH of your Web Servers. This will be for the base install, if you have multiple installs you will need to unzip the files to those virtual directories as well.

• Log into Synergy SIS and navigate to Synergy SIS>System>Setup>System Configuration>Options tab.

• Check Enable Context Sensitive Help..

• Click Help System and select RoboHelp.

• Enter the path to the Context Sensitive Help files in Help System URL, see example below.

• Click .

• Click .

• Log out and log back in to Synergy SIS.

Address information in Synergy SIS can be linked with mapping software such as Google maps.

User Session State Management controls when Synergy SIS window is “locked” due to user inactivity. This is similar to a screensaver. After there has been no activity in any open Synergy SIS window for a specified time, window will be locked until user re-enters their password. This helps to protect data from unauthorized access if a staff member walks away from their computer without logging out.

Generally, this is set in two levels. First level a lock screen is shown. User is required to re-enter their password to regain access to Synergy SIS. Second level all secondary Synergy SIS windows (such as pop-up windows) are closed and main window is returned to Synergy SIS login screen. When this occurs, any data change that has not been saved is lost.  

To set when these events occur and default Lock Screen text

• Enter Time, in minutes, of inactivity before a lock screen is shown and will require the user to login to regain access.

• Enter Time, in minutes, of inactivity before all child windows are closed, pending changes not committed and user is returned to a login screen.

• Enter Override the default Lock Screen text to the following: text to be displayed in locked screen.

• Click .

To improve Synergy SIS performance, primary keys for each database are cached in memory as each table is used. Over time, this cache may need to be refreshed periodically.

To clear cache to update key information,

• Click .

 When installing a new release of Synergy SIS over an existing installation, Microsoft SQL Server database is backed up before any changes are made to database, by default.

To disable automatic backup

• Check Disable Pre-Installation Backup of MSSQL Server Database.

To change location where backups are stored

• Enter new path in box provided. Backups are saved to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Backup by default.

User Performance Statistics tracks number of minutes and seconds it takes to load a view, and logs this information in a table in Synergy SIS database. This can increase database size dramatically, so it is recommended to enable this function only when diagnosing a problem. Performance data can only be accessed directly from database.

• Check Enable User Performance statistics if appropriate.

• Click .

SIF stands for School Interoperability Framework, a standard established for data exchanges between software systems for schools. Synergy SIS supports SIF standard, and can import data in SIF format.

To setup or adjust SIF transactions process

• Enter Email the following address(es) upon failure of staff to be notified if SIF process has an error. Multiple e-mail addresses can be entered by separating them with a comma.

• Enter Hours to Recur between each SIF process.

• Click .

• Click   to schedule SIF process.

 

Central Printing option will allow Synergy SIS and applications to print jobs to a central location. Centralized Printing option is hidden in Report Interface by default.

To enable Centralized Printing

• Check Enable Central Printing.

• Click Job Description and select desired default.

• Click Number of Copies and select desired default.

• Click Job Type and select any desired Central Printing Defaults

• Check Three Hole Punch if desired.

• Click Paper Size and select desired default.

• Enter Output Path where reports sent to Central Printing will be stored.

• Click .

• Check Allow use of override Login page (page must be named Login_OVR.aspx) if appropriate

• Click .
