Best practice is for the main person responsible for schedule to
check out option set. This eliminates anyone else from processing
schedule for option set. Other users may make changes to course requests
and schedule sections within checked out option set..
Click . User
name is reflected in Currently
Checked Out To. Schedule Option Set may be edited.
No one else can edit set except user listed.
Click to run the option set and see
what student schedules would be created by this option set. It
does not make any changes to the student schedule screens found
in the Scheduling module. The test schedule can only be screened
from within the Option Set.
School Scheduling Options – Show Teacher Preference
Schedule Request – Teacher
Sched Section – Staff Name
When this option is selected all teacher preferences will be enforced.
This is a strict enforcement of teacher preference, meaning if
the preferred teacher does not teach a section for the requested course
with the teacher preference the course request will not be scheduled.
Check Co requisites
Referencing:
District Course – Pre/Co requisite tab, Co requisites grid
When this option is selected all students must meet the co requisites
for each course requested.
Prerequisite Option
Referencing:
District Course – Pre/Co requisite tab , Prerequisite grid
Schedule Request – Pre-Req Not Required
When this option is selected all students must meet the prerequisites
for each course requested unless the option Pre Req Not Required is
selected within Schedule Request.
Options available for this rule are:
Full Enforcement (checks CHS) – The scheduler will check
course history to determine if the student has met the prerequisites
for the course request. Full Enforcement includes scheduling
requests in pre req order.
No Enforcement – Prerequisites will not be considered during
the scheduling run.
Schedule Requests in Pre Req Order – Refers to current
course requests only and will schedule the requests in order of
prerequisites.
Allow Alternate Course
Referencing:
School Scheduling Options - Show Alternate Course
Schedule Request – Alternate Course
When this option is selected it is referring to scheduling
alternate courses within the Alternate Course column of Schedule
Request (one on one alternate).
Allow Global Alternate Courses
Referencing:
District Course – Schedule Priority
Schedule Request – Alternates for Electives
When this option is selected courses within the Alternates for
Electives grid of Schedule Request will be scheduled in preferred
priority order for Elective (Low) type courses only.
Use Room Seat Limit
Referencing:
School Room – Class Size column
When this option is selected the scheduler will assign students
to all sections but limit the students to the Class Size within School
Room instead of the Sched Section Student Seat Totals Max.
Check Term Override
Referencing:
School Scheduling Options – Show Term Override (Override
Term Codes must be completed)
Sched Section – Term Code
Schedule Request – Term Override
When this option is selected the scheduler will refer to the Term
Override within Schedule Request and will schedule the student just
for that term. Example: if the course is a YR term course
but the student has a term override of S2, the student will only be
scheduled for S2 of that year long course. Grades, GPA and Course
History all refer to the Term Override for credit.
Check Term Preference
Referencing:
School Scheduling Options – Show Term Preference
Sched Section – Term Code
Schedule Request – Preferred Term
When this option is selected all term preferences entered for students
will be used. This allows the student to request a given course
at a given time of year. This option is strictly enforced when
selected.
Check Student Restrictions
Referencing:
Sched Sction – Students grid
Schedule Request – Student Restrictions grid on the Restrictions
tab.
When this option is selected all students listed within Student
Restrictions grid will not be scheduled in the same sched section
with the student.
Check Teacher Restrictions
Referencing:
Sched Section – Staff Name
Schedule Request – Teacher Restrictions grid on the Restrictions

When this option is selected all students with teachers listed
in the Teacher Restrictions grid will not be scheduled in sched sections
with those teachers as the Staff.
House Option
Referencing:
Sched Section – House
School Scheduling Options – Show House
Schedule Request – Schedule House
When this option is selected all students will be scheduled according
to house assignment.
Options available for this rule are:
No House Enforcement
– Houses are not used during the scheduling process. All
house assignments will be ignored.
Match Sections with Houses
– Use this option when students are manually assigned to a house
within Schedule Request. Strict enforcement is used to only
schedule students in sections with the matching house assignment.
Houses will not be assigned to students in the scheduling
run.
Automatic House Enforcement
– Students may or may not be assigned to a house in Schedule Request.
If a student is manually assigned to a house the scheduler
will schedule the student in sections with that houses. If
a house is not manually assigned to the student, the scheduler
will try different house assignments until a positive 100% schedule
is reached for the student to a section defined house. If
a section does not have a house assignment then the student can
be placed in that section.
Team Option
Referencing:
School Scheduling Options - Show Team
Sched Section - Team
Schedule Request – Schedule Team
Options available for this rule are:
Match Sections with Teams
– Students who are manually assigned to a team will be scheduled
in that team. Students who are not assigned to a team will
be scheduled into the first team available for their schedule
Automatic Team Enforcement

are manually assigned to a team the scheduler will try different
assignments until a positive 100% schedule is reached for the
student to a section defined team.
No Team Enforcement
- Teams are not used during the scheduling process. All
team assignments will be ignored.
Duplicate Course Request
Referencing:
District Course – Duplicate Request
Schedule Request – Course Requests
When students have multiple requests for the same course ID, the
District Course option for Duplicate Request is referenced to determine
how to handle the duplicate requests. If nothing is indicated
in District Course, the scheduler will refer to the option for Duplicate
Course Request. When this option is selected all students will be
scheduled according to house assignment.
Options available for this rule are:
Reject all duplicates
– All duplicate course requests will be rejected and not scheduled.
Schedule all of the duplicates
- All course requests will be scheduled.
Schedule one of the duplicates
– Only one of the duplicate requests will be scheduled. The
duplicated requests will be rejected.
Exceed Max Class Size for Classes by ___%
There are three separate lines for each group of courses, Core
(High), Elective (Low) and Other (Blank-Medium).
Referencing:
District Course – Schedule Priority
Sched Section – Max class size
There are times when the max student seat totals needs to be increased
for all sched sections of a particular course priority. Reasons
for this could be an increase in student enrollment or even a staff
reduction. This allows for the max student seat totals to be
increased without having to update each sched section individually.
Input numeric value for percentage of increase.
Special Run Option
Referencing:
Schedule Control – Schedule processor
Sched Section – Max class size
The scheduler processor has two additional options for special
runs,
Ignore Max Class Size
– This option is typically used to test the validity of a master
schedule. If the seat max is turned off the user can see
if there are any inherent conflicts with the master schedule.
This option is suggested for the first few runs of the master
schedule.
Perform Schedule Optimization
– The scheduler, at the end of the scheduling pass will attempt
to shift earlier scheduled students out of a given section so
that a seat can be opened to solve a schedule conflict for a rejected
student. This feature is very powerful and it can be time
consuming. The scheduler will not attempt to try to resolve
a reject that is not possible to resolve.
