Dashboard Control

• Click . A new Dashboard Control screen opens.

• Enter Name for new widget.

• Select Group to assign to widget  Groups available are customizable by each district, and they are same groups used in Query screen.  

• Select Widget Type . Widget Type indicates  source of  data displayed in widget. There are four Widget Types:

• Query is data that comes from a public query in Synergy SIS.

• External Image displays an image from another web site.

• RSS Feed shows content of an RSS feed.

• SQL Query is data that comes from Synergy SIS database via a SQL query.

• Check Inactive to remove a widget from everyone’s home page and remove availability to be added.

Widget ID is a serialized number assigned by Synergy SIS and cannot be changed.

• Enter Description to assist users in selecting which widgets may be helpful for display.

• • Click  for additional space.

  • Click  to spell check.

• Enter Title to display at top of widget when shown on home page.

Dimensions

NOTE: Dimensions cannot be set for a RSS Feed widget.

• Enter Height or Width. Enter either height or width, browser will render other dimension proportionate to value entered. Dimensions cannot exceed 999 in Height and Width pixels.

OR

Leave blank to use original dimensions.

• Enter Graph Large Height or Graph Large Width. Enter either height or width, browser will render other dimension proportionate to value entered.  Dimensions cannot exceed 9999 in Graph Large Height and Graph Large Width pixels.

OR

Leave blank to use original dimensions. Default is displayed in 800 x 600 dimensions.

All other options on Options tab change, depending on widget type selected. Choose appropriate Part 2 from Task List.

A Query widget uses a public query to gather data included in widget chart. A public query needs to be created and saved before using this option.

• Complete Create a Widget Part 1.

• Click next to Specific Organization. Find: RevOrganization screen opens.

• Enter partial or complete data in Organization Name. An asterisk (*) wildcard can be used as a substitute for any or all of characters.

• Click . screen displays a list of records matching criteria entered.

• Click line number of appropriate record to highlight

• Click . Find: RevOrganization screen closes and the field is populated with selection.

• Click next to Specific Year. Find: RevYear screen opens.

• Enter School Year and/or Extension.

• Click . screen displays a list of records matching criteria entered.

• Click line number of appropriate record to highlight

• Click . Find: RevYear screen closes and the field is populated with selection.

• Click next to Public query providing data for dashboard control. Find: Query screen opens.

To find public query

• Select Query Group .

AND/OR

Enter partial or complete data in User Name.

AND/OR

Enter partial or complete data in Name (name of query).

• Click . screen displays a list of records matching criteria entered.

• Click line number of appropriate record to highlight.

• Click . Find: Query screen closes and the field is populated with selection.

Check (Optional)

• • Focus Based to use focus selected when widget is displayed.

  • Do not allow user to open query

  • Do not allow user to print report

  • Do not allow user to open query detail to prevent user from opening data underlying widget in an Excel spreadsheet.

• Click Graph Type   and select option.

• Bar graphs are for comparing two or more values.

• Curve graphs slope up or down depending upon data.

• Doughnut graphs demonstrate how proportions of data contribute to whole. Size of slice in a Doughnut graph ring is determined by series value as a percentage of total of all values.

• Line graphs represent a series of data points connected together with a line and is useful to show data trends. This graph can be used to show how two items are related to each other.

• Pie graphs represent an entire data category as a pie. Each data item in that category is a pie wedge with each wedge being proportional to that data item's percentage of all data being used for graph.

• Surface graphs show two independent variables on two axes, i.e. x-axis and y-axis, and a dependent variable on z-axis. It is similar to a 3D image.

• Click X Column and select properties from chosen query.

• Click Y Column and select properties from chosen query.

• Enter Value to Start the X Axis - value that appears on horizontal line of graph.  

• Enter Value to Start the Y Axis - value that appears on vertical line of graph.

Check (Optional)

• • Order Graph Data in All Colors are Opaque (pieces of graph in solid colors)

  • Query Sorted Order

  • Chart is Rendered in 3D

  • Graph Show Data Labels (names of properties used on X & Y axes)

• Click .

This dashboard widget can now be added to the home page.

External Image widgets display images from an outside source.

• Complete Create a Widget Part 1.

• Enter External URL Path.

• Enter External Image Click URL - URL of page to display when user clicks widget.

• Click .

RSS Feed widgets contains frequently updated content available on web which is automatically downloaded to widget via an RSS feed.

• Complete Create a Widget Part 1.

• Enter RSS Feed URL Path.

• Click .

This dashboard widget can now be added to the home page.

• Complete Create a Widget Part 1.

• Check either MS SQL or Oracle as type of database to be used.

• Enter Server name that hosts database.

• Enter Database name.  

• Enter User name to access database (generally rev, rev).  

• Enter Password to access database (generally rev, rev).  

• Check Focus Based to use current focus of user when running query, otherwise, organization & year to be used will be taken from SQL query.

• Check No Launch Detail to suppress system messages showing progression of query. While creating widget, it may be helpful to leave this unchecked to see any error messages.

• Enter query in SQL Command.

• • Click  for additional space.

  • Click    to spell check.

A  list of standard parameters that can be used as variables in query is shown below SQL Command. These parameters are added when query is run.

• Click Graph Type and select option.

• Enter title in X Column Description.

• Enter X Column Aggregation  to use on data, such as TOTAL or COUNT box.

• Enter Value to Start X Axis From to change number to start on X axis from 0 to a different value.

Check (Optional)

• Order Graph Data in Query Sorted Order to sort data in graph by same sort order selected in query.

• All Colors are Opaque to show pieces of graph in solid colors.

• Chart is Rendered in 3D.

• Graph Show Data Labels to show names of properties used on X & Y axis.

• Click .

This dashboard widget can now be added to the home page.
